 Plant Manager, Machining Category: General Manufacturing Job Number: 70214

Our client is seeking a Plant Manager to manage the facility day to day in a highly visible role that will report directly to the Vice President of Manufacturing.  The Plant Manager will be responsible for management of all phases of plant operations including: safety, production, maintenance, quality, and shipping and receiving. Additionally, management of safety and environmental compliance, hiring and training of plant personnel as well as supervision and development of staff.  The Plant Manager will participate in annual budget planning and month to month management of cost drivers to meet or exceed company goals.

  • Provide leadership and direction for the successful management of the plant and manufacturing personnel including day to day and long-term.
  • Conduct timely reviews of qualifications and performance appraisals as well as provide coaching and guidance to all operations employees.
  • Implement and maintain processes and procedures in accordance with Environmental, Health and Safety requirements ensuring plant is in full compliance.
  • Maintain and support timely communications with supervisors, employees, senior management, other departments, suppliers, etc.
  • Work closely with quality personnel to review product consistency while monitoring scrap and rework rates to determine trends and areas of improvement including implementation.
  • Ensure on time delivery of product to customers maintaining production schedules and customer specifications at or better than cost estimates.
  • Monitor and control plant manufacturing expenses to meet or exceed plan identifying and implementing improvements to existing or new procedures/processes to reduce costs with the same product quality.
  • Control flow of product to budget while insuring appropriate stock on hand for production and maintenance needs including raw materials, WIP, tooling and parts inventory levels.
  • Communicate with other departments as well as production personnel to develop strategies and methods including maintaining a continuous improvement oriented environment.
  • Work with purchasing manager to develop and improve supplier relationships, find secondary sources, improve supplier performance and reduce the cost of purchased goods.
  • Develop and submit strategic maintenance plan and needs to senior management as part of the production planning process including capital purchases and repairs.

7+ year’s progressive experience in a key leadership/management role in a low piece count/ high volume manufacturing facility.  Machine shop experience highly desirable.

Previous demonstrable experience in safety systems and enforcement of safety rules and policies.

Implementation and maintenance of a quality system and related tools driving continuous improvement.

Experience with budgeting/expense management with a basic understanding of job costing.

Strong computer skills with Microsoft Office Products (Word, Excel, Power Point and/or Access)

The ability to prepare spreadsheets to analyze data and trends.
